2011 - 1 pm Children's Lunchtime Concert Orchestra of the Swan Small Ensemble Before playing their evening concert, the small string and wind ensemble of the orchestra will give a concert especially for children and young people, with a programme of music which they will thoroughly enjoy and which will help them find out about the players, their instruments and the music while having fun. Handel’s ‘The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’ and Alec Roth’s ‘The Departure of the Queen of Sheba’ will feature in the concert and the organisers’ idea is that it would be fun to treat the stage and auditorium as two ‘countries’ – the Queen of Sheba’s and Solomon’s.
Children are invited to make and bring ‘crowns’ (or costumes if they wish!), dress as the Queen of Sheba or King Solomon and join together in a procession onto and off the stage. They can meet the players and have their photo taken with the musicians There will also be some music from the evening concert (Mozart, Haydn and Vivaldi). The children and the adults with them will be invited on to the stage, and will be able to ask questions by roving microphone about the music and players, and there will be photo opportunities after the concert. Tickets are available from the Theatre Box Office for £3. Adults must be accompanied by a child and vice versa! This concert is supported by a grant from the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank. |
